I qualified as a doctor in 1986 after graduating from the Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School. After postgraduate training in medicine and psychiatry and completing a research degree, I was appointed consultant psychiatrist in 1998.
I spent most of my career as a psychiatrist working with older people. I specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders including dementia, depression and delirium.
I have extensive experience in assessing mental capacity. I have conducted research into mental capacity and I teach widely on the subject. I have been a lecturer on the ACTAPS course for over 10 years.
